Abrupt awakening

The other night when I couldn’t fall asleep, I did what I used to do when I was a kid, and I put my head at the foot of the bed and my feet at the head of the bed.

I fell asleep immediately just as I always used to do, but apparently being married changes things. So whereas I  used to sleep soundly “upside” down all night, Mike inadvertently woke me up (and pissed me off) when he started searching blindly for more covers in the middle of the night, in the process ripping the pillow I’d comfortably been snoring on directly out from under my head, on accident sure, but nonetheless, it was certainly a jarring way to be roused.

I was also a bit offended by the similarity he apparently finds between my feet and my face.

Oh well. He put a ring on it, so now he’s stuck with me regardless.

I News Network Journalism Camp

So the I News Network Journalism Camp isn’t exactly roughing it. We’re using computers (some might be surfing the web for deals on new computers), soaking up info like sponges and eating three squares a day.

Then again, Denver University’s sleeping arrangements are what you might call sparse. Trying to fall asleep at night with a plastic bed, a pair of sheets that are eight thread count max and a waterproof, drool-proof, flame retardant, nylon pillow has been a bit of a challenge. And the unscreened window handily level with my headboard makes it more than likely that over the course of the week something will plummet to the ground four stories below; however, if anything does, I’ll definitely have the investigative tools to figure out why the hell it happened.

Old people sleeping on moving objects

I just don’t understand the sleeping powers of the aged, especially in cramped quarters on buses and airplanes where space is limited and comfort ever evasive.

Not quite a moving object, but you get the idea. Pic from loungerie on Flickr.

That whole head-hunched-over-hovering-somewhere-between-belly-button-and-shoulders position is astonishing.

The mere fact that their abdominals buck up to hold them in that position and that they don’t inadvertently block their airway defies logic on numerous levels.

To the old people out there seeking sleep by whatever means necessary: I salute you!
